01.03It’s all about the Gear - Podcast Gear for 2008
As I work my way back to the Studio1A microphone for the inaugural 2008 PodSqod show, I can’t help but reflect back on the changes, ups and downs along with the events that got us where we are today.
I was listening back on a few old shows. Along with the typical growing pains, I found some old techniques that used to be an integral part of PodSqod and can’t help but wonder if it would be fun to bring a few back.
I get many, many emails asking about equipment, settings etc. Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing from you and helping any way I can. Remember the early days, though, when most questions were asked by sending an MP3 file? I miss that.
Remember the weather reports from Florida? Most people could care less, but it was fun!
Anyone remember the Ecco organizer?
How about the beginning monologue all voiced under a music track? I like that too; even if it means spending more money on Sound-Ideas music libraries.
Most importantly, above all the glitz, fame and huge paychecks of being a Podcaster, it all comes down to our fascination with gear. The tubes, audio boards, processors and software that make our studios tick. A close second (some would say first, and they may be right) is technique and style. This comes down to the format of your show, your delivery, consistancy and ability to hold an audience. We really can’t depend on one while ignoring the other.
I encourage you to step up to your own mic and send me your comments, your questions, your experiences with gear along with the problems and successes of your show. Maybe you don’t have a show yet. All the more reason to record that MP3. If you send me an MP3, just write “OK to air” somewhere in your message. If you want it kept private, we will always honor your request.
Send those MP3’s to:

As we open the mic for the first time this year, it’s as good as ever to be in the “air-chair” and it’s great to have you in the audience.
Best,
MarkJensen
