dbx creates many different lines and products. We have focused in on a few models that give you a lot of value for the money. The 286a is a vocal strip meant to bring your mic level audio up to line while adding in some compression, gating and articulation detail along the way.

The 166XL that you’ll hear today is a 2 channel line level device that utilizes classic dbx compression, gating and PeakStop limiting. The 166XL is often used on individual instruments or clusters (including speech) to give you maximum control of dynamics.
