Broadcasting or Recording?

Podcast Audio and Podcast Gear is HERE! …New Media Gear

This weekend, I had the opportunity to visit a slew of world-class recording studios and Dialogue Replacment theaters. Thanks to Studio1A and the fact that I record almost exclusively one or two voice tracks, multi-million dollar studios aren’t needed to obtain optimum results for my projects. When I do have the opportunity to glimpse into these studios, it’s a real treat to see the similarities and the distinct differences in philosophies between broadcast and the recording arts.

With the explosion of New Media, the once crystal-clear line is becoming blurry and we are seeing more cross-over today than ever. While recording studios at advertising agencies have been the moonlighting paradise of radio jocks since I can remember, that’s a whole different ball game.

While I marveled at the studio design and acoustic integrity, I was reminded just why Studio1A purchased a Wheatstone Radio Console instead of continuing up the recording mixer ladder.

A radio methodology just works better for my own circumstances, but that doesn’t mean it’s your optimal path.

Perhaps; like automobiles, a new set of guidelines, tools and methods will evolve that are unlike any we have seen before in recording or terrestrial broadcast. Audio production may just take a queue from the auto industry and realize that colliding worlds can be a win-win situation. It certainly is working out well for the Hybrids.

Best,
Mark Jensen
