The Pearlman TM 1

Just as I installed Sony Sound Forge 8, version 9 is available! I forgot just how elegant Sound Forge is for 2-track recording.

The real star of this show is the Pearlman TM 1 microphone. This beauty is hand made by Dave Pearlman using classic NOS (new-old stock) JAN and Telefunken tubes. I tried a JAN model and it has a wonderful full tone. The World War II vintage Telefunken tubes are becoming harder to find (and more expensive) every day.

Dave wanted a U47 sound without breaking the bank so he started hand making these mics using my favorite wiring technique - point-to-point. This is the most labor intensive way of connecting components, but also the purest connection you can get.

Have a listen as I chat with Dave on the TM 1. As you’ll notice, this mic has plenty of low end and beautiful, crisp highs. You should have no problem hearing when I pot up the fader to reply to Dave!
