04.24SoundCraft EPM6 Mixer
Podcast Audio and Podcast Gear is HERE! …New Media Gear

SoundCraft, part of the Harmon Group in the UK specialize in the art of mixing. They manufacture a large array of recording, live sound and broadcast mixers/consoles. The SoundCrafts have always caught my eyes and ears as a product that takes a step above the average in quality and presentation.
I tried the smaller 6 channel model in their EPM line. The mixer is very compact but still has those nice beefy pots and smooth 60mm sliders. The mic pre-amps are nice and quiet, just as we would expect (more on the pre’s below.) Dual Auxiliary sends, pre-fader-listen and triple-band EQ are relatively standard fare. SoundCraft adds a nice little touch in the EQ section with a parametric option that sweeps the voice range of frequencies.
At a street price of $290USD for a 6-channel mixer, the EPM isn’t for the budget conscious. After taking it home and getting used to the ergonomics, I find the SoundCraft, like many other higher priced mixers earn their keep in quality, craftsmanship and sonic quality. The little EPM6 houses SoundCrafts acclaimed GB30 mic pre-amps. These ‘Graham Blyth’ pre-amps are the same found in SoundCrafts high-end LX and GB series mixers.
