Podcast Gear and Podcast Audio is HERE! …New Media Gear

Today, I talk with Caroline from Matrox about their Dual Head and Triple Head options for use in the studio.
We all know that editing an audio or video timeline is much easier using a side-by-side monitor configuration.
However, most laptops don’t have a dual head option. While my XPS desktops do have dual DVI connections, our newer office workstations (Dell C521’s) don’t have this option. The half-height physical card restrictions in a system like this make it almost impossible to use dual displays.
Enter the Matrox DualHead2Go. This is really a smart junction box that re-scans the video and splits your output into side-by-side outputs. The result is that you can now use 2 displays on systems where you previously couldn’t. The DualHead2Go still relies on your systems own video processor, or GPU, to handle computations.
For example, our new Dell C521’s use an on-board video chipset, but that chipset is supplied by NVidia and I can allocate up to 256MB of (shared) RAM to video. This type of video isn’t in the same league as NVidia 7900’s, but it works well for audio editing. As well, I’m anxious to try a DualHead2Go on our MacBook Pros to turn these into multi-display units.
Stop by as we have a conversation with Matrox…
Best,
MarkJensen
