01.23Tapco Link.USB - 155

Today, an affordable yet professional audio interface is put to work in Studio1A.
As more users take the plunge from consumer to pro audio, a good interface becomes a necessity. The Tapco Link.USB is a relatively compact interface powered completely from the USB buss …no wall-wart needed!
At $149, there is a lot to like about the Link.USB. I have to admit that it was the industrial good looks of the Link.USB that initially caught my eye. The front panel knobs match my Onyx mixers and the interface is happy to stand on its side or flat, thanks to a built-in, snap out leg.
Included in the box is the interface, USB cable, manual and Traction2 software CD. It was actually refreshing to see a different multi-track editor like Traction included. The Traction2 software does the job and handles VSTs.
A 24-bit interface, the Link.USB samples up to 96Khz. A monitor knob and 1/4 inch jacks on back, allow you to plug in amplified studio monitors. The mix knob will allow you to mix-back your computers audio along with the direct inputs. Separate gain knobs adjust the line or mic level XLR/1/4 inch input levels. 48VDC will power your condenser mic, if needed. Another knob allows you to adjust headphone levels separately from the studio monitor level.
The Tapco Link.USB performed flawlessly. Although not the smallest professional interface, I like the Link.USB with my laptop. Its no-nonsense appearance is matched by its solid performance.
Take a look at the Link.USB if you want a no-frills, performance interface at a reasonable cost.
