10.30HHB Flashmic - 131

The Monday edition of PodSqod takes a look at the HHB Flashmic, distributed in the US by Sennheiser. This is a great tool for Podcasting, interviews and general field work. The Flashmic is essentially a high-quality stage-type condenser with a built-in 1GB flash recorder and headphone monitor. The base of the mic has all the controls and the USB connector. When connected to a PC or Mac OS X machine, the mic is seen as a mass storage device. Simply drag n’ drop your files using the OS or use the included Mac/Win Flashmic utility.
Although the price tag is a bit high at $1299, expect pro results, a nice hefty feel and a cool look. The mic worked well, minus wind-sock, without registering even a gust of wind. The mic element was a nice balance between not being too boomy and adding a nice bit of ambience in the background while capturing the speaker. The mic has built-in AGC, gain and monitor levels and will sample up to 48khz using MP3 or uncompressed broadcast WAV format.
Appropriately for the time of year, the forces worked against us in not being able to post last Fridays BSW-Gary interview. However, this week we offer a double Gary experience starting with tonights show…
