PodSqod 14 - Aphex 230 Master Voice Processor

Aphex
230

Aphex is a company that surprised me. The 230 delighted me. You see, there are times when all things come together. Call it synergy, devine intervention or dumb luck.

The story starts when I found myself in need of a processing “solution”, not just a vocal strip or a compressor, but a real solution to a real problem. Studio 1A is always in a state of flux. Equipment comes and goes. One day we use a dynamic mic, the next a condenser. We may switch mixers or bring in a new compressor, then take it out of line. Now don’t get me wrong, I love doing just that; experimenting in the art of audio. However, one problem remained a constant. Levels. Keeping my levels realistic across a constantly changing topographical landscape was getting downright time consuming. In my (so far) successful quest for keeping post production to a minimum, Studio 1A needed a gatekeeper that would assist with keeping the chain in some sort of order.

Enter the Aphex company. A company that I had been referred to by a knowledgable audio engineer. From my first contact with Aphex, I felt like a true customer. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They wanted me to own their products. You see, Aphex simply believes in itself and that shows.

I soon found myself buying an Aphex 230 vocal processor. From the moment I heard the 230, I was very pleased. This processor sounds very “FM”. I liked the way it could powerfully handle my voice and at the same time cradle it like a baby. The whole idea is that the processor does its job without you knowing it.

All of the patented circuitry and processes are great, but the real test is how it sounds. It sounds like an old friend. I was immediately comfortable with it and knew this was “the sound” I wanted. Little did I know that my 230 was not connected optimally to my Mackie Onyx. Aphex helped me straighten things out and now my 230 is on the insert #1 and doing quite well, thank you.

Lets get the keys and take it around the block. No hard sell, rebates or promises of low interest; just good audio. Lets listen…

Best,
MarkJensen & Laura
