Studio1A goes Live Assist

Well, if NBC can do it, so can PodSqod. Show 11 is composed of merry banter about the state of Studio1A, “live-assist” software and …well the rest is filler.

This was basically a test of running the show in a “live” format, ie; no post-production. It was a success in that I only brought it into Cubase for a level normalize and that was it.

Here’s the current workflow…
The PowerBook G4 running MegaSeg with its FireBox goes to a stereo input on the Mackie Onyx. The PowerBook acts as the “insert machine” for playing Podsafe music, promos, ID’s, etc.

Normally, the G5 PowerMac would take the combined output and record it onto a multi-track program. However, this time, I simply put the Alesis MasterLink 9600 into action and used it to record the entire show onto hard disk.

Finally, I played back the Alesis into the G5 running Cubase. Levels were adjusted and then bounced to an MP3. I could have cut back on 1 step, but since I’m still new to Cubase, the Mastering Deck was a backup.

To makeup for the [very] dry run, we’ll record another show tomorrow and pick the winner of the Extreme Headphone contest. This will be the last day to enter, so send those gmails if you haven’t already!
